Gastroenterology (GI) focuses on digestion and issues of the digestive system. We provide services including but not limited to colonoscopies, EGDs, endoscopies, and GI ultrasounds. If you believe you are having digestive symptoms or issues that are preventing you from a higher quality of life, or if you believe these issues may be life threatening, please call our hospital to schedule an appointment with one of our gastroenterologists.

In gastroenterology, imaging plays a key role in diagnosing conditions. The following are some common imaging techniques used in the GI Department:

  • Endoscopy. An endoscopy is a non-surgical procedure in which a flexible tube called an endoscope is used to examine parts of the digestive tract. A light and camera are attached to the endoscope, allowing doctors to see color images of the digestive tract.
  • Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). Also referred to as an upper GI endoscopy, an EGD is used to view the esophagus, stomach, and small intestine.
  • Colonoscopy. A colonoscopy is also a form of endoscopy. However, the endoscope enters the body through the rectum in order to view the large intestine (colon).
  • GI ultrasound. Also called an abdominal ultrasound, the procedure uses sound waves to produce images of the internal organs. Ultrasounds are safe, painless, and non-invasive, and capture images in real time.

Heartburn & Reflux Relief Center
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a chronic condition caused by changes in the
gastroesophageal valve that allows acid to flow back from the stomach into the esophagus.
Symptoms include burning sensation in the chest, regurgitation of food or sour liquid and
difficulty swallowing. Treatment for GERD varies according to the severity of the symptoms
and the individual. Many GERD sufferers can benefit from anti-reflux surgery. South Coast
Global Medical Center offers the Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF) procedure as a
way to treat GERD.

Differences between TIF and conventional surgery include:
  • Incisionless Approach: TIF does not require any incisions, which means less
discomfort, faster recovery and no abdominal incisions.
  • No Dissection: Laparoscopic surgery requires dissection which can increase the risk of
complications and adhesions as well as recovery time.

Our Maternity Services include childbirth preparation courses at no cost, pre-admission services, post-partum resources, breastfeeding education, and the highest caliber of precautionary procedures to ensure the safety of new arrivals.

When you’re expecting, there is much to consider, and we value the trust you have placed in our caring team of professionals. Whether you are having your first baby or the next addition to your family, you and your baby are our number one priority.

At South Coast Global Medical Center, our compassionate medical specialists and surgeons provide personalized patient care and minimally-invasive surgical options as well as an ongoing dedication to resolving your orthopedic condition and/or injury.

Pain management and physical therapy may not always address the root cause of joint pain. After a thorough consultation, orthopedic surgery may be the answer. We offer our patients surgical and non-surgical treatment options as well as total joint replacement and arthroscopic surgeries. There are more than 100 types of arthritis ranging from osteoarthritis to rheumatoid arthritis. Our expertise is identifying the cause and mapping out a strategy to end joint pain.

Our approach to serious orthopedic conditions, injuries, and disorders always include a full evaluation of our patients’ health. We provide thorough and comprehensive tests often including CAT (CT) scans, X-rays, and in some cases, MRI scans, as well as a full evaluation of the body and family health history of each patient. Extensive testing is then evaluated to determine the best possible treatment with the patients’ long-term well-being and recovery as our primary objective.

South Coast Global Medical Center provides a comprehensive range of plastic surgeries performed by board-certified surgeons. Plastic surgery is a term used to refer to surgical procedures focused on repairing defects or performing reconstruction to restore normal bodily function and appearance. Conditions that may necessitate plastic surgery include birth defects, trauma, or disease. Plastic surgery addressing these conditions is often performed on an inpatient basis in order to ensure proper monitoring and quality of care during and after treatment.

Plastic surgery is often confused with cosmetic surgery, which is performed with the purpose of improving appearance. Most cosmetic surgery is performed on an outpatient basis.

Plastic surgeries offered by South Coast Global Medical Center include but are not limited to reconstructive surgery including breast reconstruction (post-mastectomy) and scar revision.

A stroke occurs when the brain is deprived of sufficient blood flow, leading to an interruption in the delivery of vital oxygen and nutrients. A delayed disruption of normal blood flow can cause lasting damage to brain tissue. The key to recovery is the administration of treatment within the first couple of hours after having had a stroke. This has been shown to improve long term outcomes.
